I didn't understand the point of doing so at first, as well-- after all, why try to hold hope for something that I'd have no chance for, or determination for something that wouldn't be of my place to do it?
But then I realized that if I didn't at least try to, it would end up in failure due to my own inability. So I at least try to hold the hope that it would happen, instead.
It will be insurmountable to me, because it is not my family.
But you are their daughter. They expect you to take on a large responsibility without any knowledge of the occupation itself, and attempt to force you down by having someone spy on you.
Don't you think that they do it, because they know you'll just bend over and allow them to?
If such a thing has happened before, then I think the greatest shock would be if you continued to try to work, regardless of who is following you.
There is a very wide gap between your mind being... Emptied, and you becoming more coherent.
I had heard of nothing concerning your parents, until more recently, from you. Isn't it reasonable to consider that there would be a gap in which you were not in direct contact with your family?

If I at least hold hope for now, I'll just be disappointed later on instead of annoyed for a relatively constant rate.

At least I try now instead of giving up.

... If I do nothing, because I find no point in doing so, I cause the failure, itself.

There was, after all, a time when you had not even reconnected with your parents.

Or at least, I am quite sure of it.

But it doesn't mean that's actually the case.
